Spokane County•Houston, TX
•$62,650 - $87,256

About The Position

This is the third and highest level in the three-level engineering technician series. The position is in the Capital Projects section of Public Works and splits its duties between Chief Construction Inspector and Chief Design Technician work. Incumbents serve as lead workers, take responsibility for completing projects, assign jobs and tasks, and monitor workflow. Work across the engineering technician class may involve design, surveying, project and plat inspection, materials inspection, pavement management, traffic and road improvement district administration, wastewater operations, landfill closure facilities operation, environmental permitting, and water resources. Employees may be assigned a combination of duties within the class and are expected to perform the complete scope of duties of lower classes in their specialty while developing competency in related work as County needs require. As Chief Design Technician, the employee leads drafting and design for less complex public works projects, assists project supervisors with complex projects, lays out structural components from sketches, prepares specifications and special provisions, computes quantities and estimates, researches public records for field survey use, reviews projects in the field, and uses calculators and electronic data processing equipment for design computations. As Chief Construction Inspector, the employee leads workers and is responsible for quality control in the assigned project area. The employee tests and inspects workmanship and materials for compliance with plans and specifications, initiates and directs corrective action when needed, maintains field notes and diaries, submits reports, computes quantities and work progress to determine material yields, and directs, reviews, trains, assists, and advises other inspectors. The work environment is primarily indoors with moderate noise and temperature levels. Work is also performed outdoors and requires occasional travel within the County, with exposure to weather extremes, precipitation, and hazards associated with travel on public roads. Applications must include a resume and cover letter.
