About The Position

This role provides technical support to engineers and trades on a variety of technical tasks. The primary focus is on gathering, maintaining, formatting, compiling, and manipulating technical data related to paint coatings, including coating records and metrics. The position involves performing detailed reviews of critically coated paint records against applicable technical documents such as NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32, Drawings, Procedures, Inspection Reports, ASTM-F718’s, and Manufacturer product data sheets. The role also includes performing audits, assisting with problem resolution for CAR responses, and identifying and communicating deficiencies within paint records to ensure all administrative and technical issues are adjudicated. The technician will navigate the electronic paint record database (E4749), interpret paint schedules, IR’s, Quality Assurance Instructions, and Standard Shipbuilding Work Instructions, and identify technical deficiencies like cure time, HI DFT, and high mills. Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills are essential for daily interaction with SOST, Trades, and Engineering to communicate and rectify deficiencies. The role requires utilizing SAP and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) to generate reports for management, trades, engineering, and SOS, outlining current status and potential issues that may delay key events. Assistance will be provided to Sup Ship and Trades to help certify/close critically coated E4749 paint records.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
  • Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
  • Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
  • Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data.
  • Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports.
  • May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

  • Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates data, such as the status of each E4749 critically coated paint record.
  • Produces reports to aid all parties involved in the process (Trades, Subcontractors Engineering, Program, Sup ship, etc.).
  • Identify and communicate E4749 deficiencies within paint records to assure all administrative and technical issues have been adjudicated.
  • Review critical coated E4749 paint records.
  • Navigate the electronic paint record database (E4749).
  • Interpret and understand Paint Schedules, IR’s, Quality Assurance Instructions, and Standard Shipbuilding Work Instructions.
  • Identify technical deficiencies on E4749. (Cure Time/HI DFT/High Mills) etc.
  • Interacting with SOST, Trades, and Engineering on a daily basis to communicate and rectify deficiencies found within E4749’s.
  • Utilize SAP and Microsoft office applications such as Word and Excel to generate reports for Management, Trades, Engineering and SOS that outline the current status and potential issues that may hold up Key Events.
  • Provide assistance to Sup Ship and Trades to help certify/close critically coated E4749 paint records.
