About The Position

Incumbents have substantial latitude in determining the best methods and procedures to follow to complete assignments. Tasks are broad and complex in nature where considerable independent judgment and discretion are required. Strong initiative is required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Decisions/actions may have an impact on the department's/divisions goals. May also be the entry level for the professional career path. Assignments are received in the form of results expected. Possesses broad knowledge of operations and policies. May provide functional guidance to others performing similar work and/or provide project or task leadership. Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical assembly and fabrication procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of electronic circuitry and testing and debugging procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of CAD and SMT machine programming and ability to use applications specific to this position (such as C++).
  • Good project management skills.
  • Computer literacy, MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent problem identification and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret product specifications, schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools required for test assembly.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of internal customers.
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate a diverse group of employees to achieve high production levels within tight time deadlines.
  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada
  • Meet all other requirements under CGP.
  • Undergoing a successful security screening per the Controlled Goods Regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides senior level technical support of manufacturing engineering initiatives including process, industrial, quality, and development engineering efforts.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of engineering projects.
  • Takes ownership for a process sector under engineering guidance.
  • Assists with scheduling and conducting process experiments.
  • Participates in machinery reviews and reviews of equipment proposed for purchase.
  • Assists in setting up new product lines.
  • Assists in development of physical floor plan and prescribing tooling application and process support requirements.
  • Plans and coordinates equipment moves.
  • Facilitates problem identification and resolution of equipment and process failures.
  • Assists with efforts to reduce cycle times and improve process flow.
  • Gathers data regarding standard times, cost and bottleneck identification.
  • Programs the Automated Visual Inspection equipment to capture data for Statistical Process Control (SPC) reporting initiatives.
  • Designs and builds specialized test fixtures to interface products to specialized computer controlled automated test units.
  • Modifies or designs and builds custom circuits and adapters to interface a computer to special circuits and functions within a new product.
  • Selects and installs specialized test equipment in existing automated testers.
  • Develops complex programs in several programming languages for computers controlling automated test equipment.
  • May also support the Manufacturing Systems Engineering in the design and implementation of manufacturing systems layouts to respond to fluctuations in customer demands.
