Engineering Tech Superintendent
About The Position
Watertown Municipal Utilities has a full-time opening for an Engineering Technician Superintendent. This management level position provides technical and supervisory support for the planning, design, mapping, surveying, permitting, and locating of electric, gas, and water utility systems. The Engineering Technician Superintendent works closely with internal departments, contractors, developers, and regulatory agencies to support safe, reliable, and efficient utility operations. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical professional who enjoys leadership, problem-solving, and working across utility disciplines in a collaborative, public-service environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience in utility system design, mapping, surveying, utility locating, and project coordination
- Ability to maintain Operator Qualification (OQ) certification for gas distribution systems
- Valid South Dakota driver's license required
Nice To Haves
- Engineering degree with Professional Engineering (PE) certificate preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD, GIS/mapping systems, and utility modeling software desired
Responsibilities
- Providing technical expertise and leadership for the GIS and engineering technicians and utility locating functions
- Supporting utility system design and modeling
- Maintaining accurate maps and records
- Coordinating South Dakota One-Call activities
- Overseeing surveying and construction staking
- Managing permits, easements, and project coordination activities
