About The Position

Canopy is seeking an Engineering Team Lead for its Embedded Analytics team. The role combines hands-on technical work, architectural leadership, and people development. The lead will guide a cross-functional squad of Full Stack Application Engineers, Data Engineers, and QA Engineers building and evolving customer-facing reporting and analytics systems. The team is transforming embedded analytics toward AI-enabled business intelligence that delivers high-performing, trustworthy, and actionable insights at greater scale and speed. The Engineering Team Lead owns end-to-end delivery for the squad's product area, from discovery and design validation through implementation, testing, deployment, and post-launch monitoring. The role works closely with Product, systems architects, and the Platform team, while contributing code, reviewing code, making architectural decisions, coaching engineers, and advancing engineering quality and operational excellence.

  • At least 2 years of experience in a technical leadership or management capacity.
  • Deep understanding of SQL, data modeling, and analytics/reporting.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and container orchestration, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Demonstrated success leading technical teams and mentoring engineers of varied seniority levels.
  • Experience with or strong enthusiasm for AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to connect engineering priorities to product and business outcomes.

  • Hands-on proficiency in one or more core technologies—Python, Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript/React—and willingness to learn and work across the stack.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a cross-functional engineering and data team, fostering technical excellence, ownership, and collaboration.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of the squad's product area, from product discovery and design validation through implementation, testing, deployment, and post-launch monitoring.
  • Work with systems architects to design an effective data and analytics platform.
  • Write and review code, understand the codebase deeply, make informed tradeoffs, and unblock the team.
  • Partner with Product to validate technical feasibility, address unrealistic scope, and advocate for quality and stability.
  • Balance feature work with bugs, technical debt, performance, and reliability in collaboration with Product leadership.
  • Drive architectural decisions that balance innovation, scalability, and delivery speed.
  • Promote clean architecture, testing, monitoring, and performance optimization.
  • Help the team break down work, manage workflow, and enable design, engineering, and QA to operate in parallel.
  • Champion high-quality code through design reviews, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines using Docker, GitHub Actions, and Kubernetes.
  • Define completion standards so work is tested, stable, monitored, and maintainable.
  • Coach engineers on career growth, system design, and collaboration, and provide timely, specific feedback.
  • Drive adoption of AI and agentic coding tools in the squad, partnering with the Platform team on standards and guardrails.
  • Build an inclusive, motivated team culture centered on transparency, ownership, and impact.
  • Collaborate with recruiting to attract and retain engineering talent.
  • Establish performance goals, track key metrics, and ensure operational excellence in delivery.
