About The Position

Vertiv Core Engineering in Westerville, OH is seeking an Engineering Sustainability Intern to support PRODUCT-related sustainability initiatives. This role will assist in various sustainability efforts within Core Engineering, focusing on technical product-related initiatives globally. The intern will contribute to reducing product-related emissions, distinct from corporate sustainability reporting, worker justice, or community programs related to buildings. Technical skills are essential for this position.

Requirements

  • Experience in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability related Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical), Carbon Accounting, or a related field.
  • Ability to balance a passion for Sustainability with technical skills and an understanding of corporate operations to drive emissions reductions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability principles, frameworks, and standards.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI).
  • Quick Learner and Result-oriented by providing quality detailed deliverables.
  • Understanding the difference between Product Operating Emissions and Product Embodied Emissions.
  • Ability to rapidly switch from one project to another as priorities change.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred knowledge of sustainability reporting standards (e.g., ISO 14040, 14044 & 14025) utilized for Environmental Product Declarations.
  • Familiarity with Life Cycle Carbon Assessment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and internal Vertiv teams to find and promote sustainable materials, procurement supply chains, and document manufacturing processes.
  • Develop systems to archive and analyze data for product sustainability reports, which are audited by third parties and provided to customers.
  • Assist in developing new AI tools to expedite product reporting.
  • Participate in training sessions to educate Vertiv product designers and material procurement teams globally on sustainability implementation.
  • Collect, analyze, and validate PRODUCT sustainability-related data, including Bill of Materials, energy usage, waste, and emissions documentation from suppliers.
  • Understand customer requirements for sustainable materials and practices, and reporting timelines.
  • Understand documentation required by standards such as ISO 14040/14044 and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in compliance with ISO 14025.
  • Understand the reporting requirements of the EU’s new Digital Product Passport Standard for publishing Product Carbon Footprints and absence of Toxins and PFAS.
  • Assist in archiving, analyzing, and digitally publishing data via QR codes for products and packaging.
  • Assist in calculating carbon footprints and identifying carbon emissions reduction strategies.
  • Conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) for products and processes.
  • Support environmental impact assessments for projects.
