About The Position

We are seeking an Engineering Support Specialist to join the Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) Component Development team in Pullman, Washington. This hands-on role is critical to the daily success of research, experimental documentation, and the design and development of production aids, all while adhering to World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles. In this role, you will collaborate closely with support teams, engineering staff, and researchers to advance innovative research in a safe, creative, and forward-thinking environment. Requirements

  • Two years’ relevant experience
  • Able to efficiently operate Windows and MS Office
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Nice To Haves

  • Excellent procedural literacy & documentation
  • Disciplined execution of procedures
  • Familiarity with stoichiometry, wet lab techniques of measuring and mixing, and chemical handling in a laboratory environment
  • Experience in industries like food, pharmaceuticals, or chemicals
  • Experience with computer-controlled test equipment
  • Demonstrates strong ability to prioritize tasks and consistently approaches work with a proactive, timely mindset
  • Takes initiative and consistently drives work forward with minimal direction

Responsibilities

  • Complete basic testing, services, or troubleshooting of SEL products and processes in accordance with defined procedures under the direction of more experienced staff.
  • Provides status updates to SEL staff and customers. Communicates effectively with team and internal partners and customers.
  • Learn and follow department processes while communicating opportunities for improvement to documentation or work instructions.
  • Represent your team by participating in collaborative improvement efforts.
  • Develop basic proficiency in the activities required to support one of the Operation Team’s disciplines (i.e. Flowline product failures, Product Hospital, test infrastructure support, or Test Lab), or R&D’s disciplines (i.e. Lab Support, Product Test, Infrastructure, or Compliance).
  • Learn and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
