About The Position

Ulteig is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Engineering Supervisor (ES) position within the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) department. This role will focus on leading a subset of the team's engineers and technicians that are responsible for the full scope of the design, development, and implementation of protective relay settings and coordination studies. The Engineering Supervisor fosters on-the-job leadership development and allows for additional and efficient team growth while supporting projects. This individual will report directly to an AISP Technical Manager, interacting closely with other corporate business units such as sales, marketing, account management, and project management. The Engineering Supervisor is a self-starting technical leader with expertise in leadership, communication, and resource management.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required from ABET accredited university or equivalent
  • Proven experience in system modeling and fault analysis software (ASPEN, CAPE, ETAP, or EasyPower), and Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access).
  • Strong knowledge in system modeling, relay coordination studies, and development of associated protective relay settings for systems ranging from 12.47 kV to 345 kV is required.
  • Experience applying protection system engineering practices and principles in one or more of the following areas: transmission line, bus, transformer, capacitor bank, reactor bank, feeder, generator, motor, and communication assisted protection schemes.
  • Familiar with application of NERC PRC standards for compliance.
  • Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
  • Strong analytic and information management skills.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, public and external agencies.
  • High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timeliness.
  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills.
  • Displays a high level of initiative and explores new opportunities while understanding the risk to the organization.
  • Must have permanent authorization to work in the US.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards.

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ years of experience in the engineering field preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, preferred
  • Experience with Mathcad is a plus.
  • Experience with 500 kV and 765 kV systems is a plus.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering is a plus.
  • On site commissioning, relay testing, and/or construction support is a plus.
  • IEEE Power System Relaying and Control Committee membership is a plus.
  • Proficient with substation protection and control design and industry standards is a plus.
  • Ability to review and produce design drawings, including one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel elevations is a plus.
  • Capable of substation SCADA, communications, and network engineering a plus.
  • Knowledge of substation electrical physical (apparatus) equipment a plus.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reviewing project drawings, system protection settings & calculations, and assumes responsible charge as needed.
  • Lead complex analyses including short-circuit and symmetrical component studies to ensure system reliability.
  • Design and optimize relay settings and coordination strategies for critical infrastructure.
  • Develop advanced protection schemes for transmission, distribution, generation, and renewable energy projects—driving innovation in power systems.
  • Manages and leads engineering activities during the proposal, design and construction stages of projects that are assigned.
  • Provides project oversight, including managing scope according to technical contracts, developing change orders, and maintaining project schedules.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of several disciplines and Project Management group on a project of significant scope or a combination of large projects.
  • Maintains high levels of quality and responsiveness to meet internal and external client requirements in alignment with company expectations.
  • Oversees design activities of team members.
  • Provides strategic direction, leadership and technical services oversight for employees on achieving individual, team, department, and organizational performance goals.
  • Coaches, trains and develops technical staff for growth and development opportunities.
  • Facilitate weekly team meetings (bi-weekly at a minimum) and actively manage team resource planning.
  • Perform individual performance reviews, training and professional development for team members.
  • Participates and partners with members of the Sales team and engineers throughout the organization to promote revenue growth and expansion of services with existing and prospective clients.
  • Supports proposal efforts by developing, providing resources, and reviewing proposals by working with the Proposal Development Team, Project Management group, and other departments.
  • Maintains positive client relationships with existing clients.
