About The Position

SUNY Onondaga Community College is seeking an Engineering Science and Technology Technical Specialist to maintain and support classroom lab spaces for the electromechanical technology program, including the Cleanroom Simulation Lab. This role ensures the smooth operation of these key labs, while also providing support for other labs such as mechanical technology, machine tool labs, welding labs, and electrical technology labs as needed. The Lab Technician will work closely with faculty, staff, and students to provide a safe and effective learning environment.

Requirements

Associate's degree in a related field from an accredited college, university or foreign equivalency, or equivalent experience.
Experience in maintaining and supporting lab environments.
Knowledge of mechanical, electromechanical, and electrical technology.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Maintain and organize lab equipment and supplies.
Set up and prepare lab spaces for classes and demonstrations.
Ensure all lab equipment is in proper working condition and perform routine maintenance.
Enforce safety protocols and procedures in all lab spaces.
Conduct regular safety inspections and address any hazards.
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Provide technical support to faculty and students during lab sessions.
Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues with lab equipment.
Train students and staff on the proper use of lab equipment and safety procedures.
Monitor and manage inventory of lab supplies and equipment.
Order and restock supplies as needed.
Maintain accurate records of inventory and equipment usage.
Collaborate with faculty to support curriculum development and lab activities.
Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students regarding lab schedules and requirements.
Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Assist with special projects and initiatives related to lab development and enhancement.
Support the implementation of new technologies and equipment in the labs.
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor within scope of job responsibilities.
