About The Position

The mission of the Division of Transportation Solutions is to provide excellence in transportation by developing, constructing and maintaining the State's infrastructure in a manner that results in a safe, cost-effective, and efficient multi-modal transportation network that enhances mobility commerce, and livability. In addition, Transportation Solutions provides high quality support services to other divisions in the department. The primary duty will be to assist with Statewide Bridge Safety Inspections. Roughly 90% of time will be spent in the field, inspecting various types of bridges. Secondary duties may include assisting with the Dam Inspection Program and Bridge Maintenance Program activities. A CDL Class B license is required to be obtained within the first year of hire. Also, you will be required to attend and successfully pass the NHI Two-Week Comprehensive Bridge Safety Inspection Course (course will be paid for by the Department).

Requirements

  • Knowledge of applied mathematical computations.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must undergo pre-employment drug testing.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must possess a valid CDL Class A or B drivers license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving) OR obtain one during the initial 90-day probationary period.
  • Must meet the physical qualifications and examination requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations to hold a commercial driver’s license unless they are approved for either an Intra-State CDL Waiver of a Federal Waiver or Exemption.
  • Must not have incurred four or more serious traffic violations during the previous three years as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Code.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects infrastructures to ensure compliance with design plans, materials specifications, safety requirements, construction processes, local, state, and federal codes and on-going maintenance requirements; documents and reports compliance or deficiencies.
  • Designs, develops, or reviews engineering project or site layouts, alignments, profiles, studies, graphs, and other related activities.
  • Compiles and records notes, sketches, test results, inspection data, and other information to document compliance and/or develop designs, specifications, reports, maps, and other geographically based data.
  • Conducts various studies to be used by others to analyze needs or develop plans, record characteristics, and other related activities.
  • Conducts data analysis to determine accuracy of data collected, develop recommendations, develop corrective designs, and/or ensure compliance.
  • Tests or evaluates the quality of materials or designs to verify adherence to contracts and specifications.
  • Obtains survey data such as angles, elevations, points, and contours using electronic distance measuring equipment and other surveying instruments.
  • Calculates or measures area and volume dimensions, horizontal and vertical geometry, profile and component specifications, and material testing dimensions using calculators or computers.
  • Operates computer assisted drafting equipment or other tools of the trade, and uses automated information systems and computer software to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve, and report on data.
  • Reads and interprets plans, specification, blueprints, and other engineering documents.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
