About The Position

The Engineering Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Engineering Department, supporting and contributing to the operational success of the hotel. This role manages Capital Expenditures, assets, and inventory, directing and coordinating routine, preventive, and emergency interior and exterior maintenance and repairs to achieve optimal efficiency and standards within budget. The manager also oversees all projects and construction scheduling.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory or manager experience in hotel and/or Maintenance/Engineering department.
  • Good leadership and communication skills.
  • Prior experience in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must possess basic computational ability.
  • Must possess basic computer skills, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
  • Committed to delivering a high level of customer service.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Physically able to walk and sit for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Birchstreet experience is a plus but not a requirement.
  • Prior experience in a mixed hotel and residential setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily and weekly payroll and overtime reports for the entire team, including recognizing and recording appropriate time to be charged to other departments.
  • Solicit pricing and bid information from vendors for storeroom items, departmental supplies, and certain major projects.
  • Correspond with vendors regarding pricing and delivery of needed materials and parts and assist in setting up credit for new vendors.
  • Initiate and coordinate purchasing of materials and supplies for the maintenance and construction of certain projects handled by Engineering within the entire hotel.
  • Set up and maintain expense tracking logs according to department codes; tabulate weekly and submit monthly reports to the finance department.
  • Clerical and administrative duties for projects.
  • Set up purchase orders for service companies where continuous services are needed.
  • Ensure spare parts are monitored and stocks are maintained at the required level.
  • Work with leadership of the department for tracking and billing of all needed repair requests.
  • Manage parts inventory for the appliances serviced by the engineering department.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional and maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, support the team to reach common goals, and listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other colleagues.
  • Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards; and identify, recommend, develop, and implement new ways to increase organizational efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, and/or cost-savings.
  • Attend morning meeting and weekly Manager meeting to provide project and construction schedule updates.
  • Respond to guest requests as a priority.
  • Ensure guest requests are followed up and updated.
  • Monitor service standards in all areas of the operation in keeping with the highest guest expectations.
  • Own all guest complaints in the absence of the Director, if a guest wishes to speak to the Manager on Duty.
  • Focus on prevention of issues and maintain a high level of attention to detail to anticipate guest needs and potential issues, resolving them before they occur.
  • Direct, implement, and maintain a service and management philosophy which serves as a guide to respective colleagues.
  • Maximize the financial performance of the hotel by providing the highest possible guest service and product.
