Help us transform our workforce of the future, today. We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join Zions Bancorporation. The Engineering Manager will lead and manage the Middleware Engineering team, overseeing the design, development, and operational of infrastructure initiatives and technologies across the department and broader organization. This role acts as a player-coach, balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on technical contributions, and serves as the primary contact for projects and operational needs requiring technical resources. You will drive modernization efforts, leveraging expertise in IaC, Python, Containers, Cloud, and Java, while ensuring the safety, soundness, and compliance of developed products. Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience within engineering disciplines or other directly related experience.
  • Professional experience in at least one primary language, framework, or infrastructure domain (Python, Java, Containers, Cloud preferred).
  • Supervisory or management experience required.
  • Experience in project management and modernization initiatives.
  • Advanced knowledge across the DevOps lifecycle, with a solid understanding of at least one area.
  • Exposure to automation through CI/CD pipelines.
  • Project and time management, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, prioritize, and execute tasks under pressure.
  • Proven ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems.
  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A combination of education and experience may meet requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage engineering teams in the design, development, and implementation of infrastructure initiatives and technologies using modern engineering practices (IaC)
  • Guide the team toward a journey to cloud principles and cloud-based infrastructure solutions.
  • Act as a player-coach, providing both leadership and hands-on technical contributions.
  • Oversee modernization projects utilizing Python, Containers, Cloud, and Java technologies.
  • Serve as the initial and ongoing contact for projects requiring technical resources.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct infrastructure/software development activities in accordance with PMO Project Delivery Process (SDLC).
  • Create and manage department/area budgets, ensuring adherence to financial processes and deadlines.
  • Ensure the safety, soundness, and compliance of developed products with internal policies and regulations.
  • Stay current with industry best practices and provide expert insights on engineering standards.
  • Evaluate project outcomes, identify problems, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Responsible for hiring, performance management, and development of staff members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
