About The Position

Engineering Managers within our Technology organization play a pivotal role in creating an inspiring workplace where talented professionals are empowered to deliver outstanding digital experiences and business results. As the Engineering Manager for Inventory Movement, you will lead a team responsible for enabling reliable, consistent, and visible movement of inventory across Nordstrom’s complex network of stores, distribution centers, and fulfillment centers. Inventory movement underpins every customer promise we make – and making it work seamlessly across channels, banners, and evolving business processes is both a critical challenge and a tremendous opportunity. Role Summary The Engineering Manager for Inventory Movement is responsible for leading the development and evolution of our inventory movement platform. You will partner closely with business stakeholders across Supply Chain, Merchandising, Store Operations, and Fulfillment to deliver end-to-end solutions that bring consistency and visibility to how inventory moves across our network. You will modernize and simplify a landscape shaped by years of process layering across multiple channels and banners, and build a high-performing team that delivers quality software and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience in software engineering, including experience leveraging AI tools and practices to accelerate development and delivery.
  • 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
  • The ability to quickly ramp up on complex business domains and become a trusted technical partner to non-engineering stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of shipping well-designed, scalable systems tested for performance and reliability.
  • Experience designing and operating distributed, event-driven systems in a cloud environment.
  • Strong communication skills – able to bridge technical complexity and business needs across diverse audiences.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps best practices, including CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, and production support.
  • Experience with agile methodologies such as SCRUM or Kanban.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to Supply Chain, Retail, or Omnichannel fulfillment operations.
  • Experience modernizing legacy platforms or untangling long-lived workarounds in a large enterprise environment.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging platforms (e.g., Kafka).
  • Experience working across multi-banner or multi-channel retail environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team responsible for a complex, multi-channel inventory movement platform serving stores, distribution centers, and fulfillment centers.
  • Collaborate deeply with business stakeholders and cross-functional partners to understand end-to-end inventory movement use cases, translating them into scalable and consistent technical solutions.
  • Drive alignment across channels and banners to reduce complexity, retiring workarounds and legacy process layering in favor of unified, well-governed solutions.
  • Work with stakeholders to define and track KPIs, roadmaps, and priorities, ensuring technical investments map directly to business outcomes.
  • Drive cross-team collaboration to align technical strategy, manage dependencies, and ensure shared prioritization of deliverables across partner teams.
  • Champion visibility and traceability in inventory movement – ensuring that the state and history of inventory transitions are observable, auditable, and actionable.
  • Ensure teams have the tools, resources, and information needed to succeed and continuously improve.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top talent, building motivated teams that deliver high-quality solutions efficiently.
  • Contribute to architecture, coding, test plans, project planning, deployment, and operations to ensure excellence in execution.
  • Promote continuous improvement by quantifying customer impact, eliminating waste, increasing productivity, and shortening feedback loops.
  • Champion an AI-first approach to software development – embedding AI-assisted coding, code review, and delivery practices into the team’s everyday workflow to accelerate velocity and raise the quality bar.
