About The Position

Apple’s Product Systems Quality (PSQ) team tests products where hardware, firmware, and software meet, under real-world conditions from early prototypes through launch. The team uses evidence-based testing to assess product quality and readiness. The Engineering Manager will lead quality engineers measuring system, sensor, and feature performance across shipping and exploratory hardware programs and advise leadership on whether products are ready to ship. The role owns a portfolio spanning test automation, firmware automation, and manual end-to-end testing of integrated hardware and software experiences. The manager sets technical direction for test frameworks and infrastructure; leads architecture, design, and code reviews; and provides engineers with clear technical guidance. They partner with hardware, firmware, and software teams to define test strategy, coverage, and exit criteria, lead validation from early prototype through launch, and turn test results into evidence-based product-readiness recommendations. The manager also hires, manages, and develops the team, plans staffing and priorities across concurrent programs, and defines and tracks quality metrics while reporting status and risks to leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in quality, test, or software engineering, including 2+ years managing engineers.
  • Experience as a senior or lead engineer designing test automation frameworks or infrastructure.
  • Experience setting test strategy for embedded firmware or system software.
  • Ability to review code and designs in Python and at least one of Swift, Objective-C, or C/C++.
  • Experience validating health, fitness, or sensor-based features, including supporting user studies or testing in regulated environments.
  • Experience with Apple test frameworks such as XCTest or XCUITest.
  • Experience debugging embedded firmware, including real-time operating systems, bootloaders, and sensor drivers, using logs, traces, and instrumented builds.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, test fixtures, and lab instrumentation.
  • Experience with early hardware bring-up and shipping high-volume consumer hardware.
