Union.aiSeattle, WA
$215,000 - $240,000Hybrid

About The Position

Union is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead two teams responsible for deep, long-running partnerships with major infrastructure providers like AWS, OpenAI, GCP, Azure, NeoClouds, and Apple. These partnerships involve integrating Union's product natively onto the partner's stack and ensuring it can be packaged and installed across diverse enterprise environments. The Partner Engineering team manages the integration cycle with hyperscalers and OEMs, while the Deployment Engineering team focuses on creating maintained, repeatable installation surfaces such as containers, Helm charts, and Terraform modules. The role emphasizes continuous improvement by translating real-world integration and installation challenges into reusable patterns and automation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in software engineering, with meaningful exposure to distributed systems, Kubernetes, or cloud infrastructure.
  • 3+ years managing software engineers or engineering teams, including experience with a full planning cycle from commitment to delivery.
  • Experience running or closely supporting long-cycle technical partnerships or integrations (six months or longer) with external companies.
  • Proven experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, and comfort evaluating tradeoffs across them.
  • Deep familiarity with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Helm), and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Experience partnering with senior or staff-level engineers on technical direction without personally owning system architecture.

Nice To Haves

  • Software packaging and distribution experience (Helm, Terraform, container/AMI builds, cloud marketplace listings, or equivalent).
  • Experience working with a hyperscaler or major platform's partner engineering organization (AWS, GCP, Azure, OpenAI, or Apple).
  • Experience standing up or restructuring a team.
  • Experience operating in an organization where technical vision is set by ICs or founders.
  • Experience managing without a management layer beneath you, leading through project or tech leads.
  • Background in Go, Rust, or Python, sufficient to participate in design reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Own planning and delivery across partner integrations and deployment formats.
  • Manage staffing, performance, and career growth across both teams.
  • Identify and develop project leads for technical direction in integration and deployment work streams.
  • Own the technical relationship with partner engineering counterparts (AWS, OpenAI, GCP, Azure, NeoClouds, Apple).
  • Set and maintain production-ready standards for partner integrations and deployment artifacts (reliability, security, operability).
  • Set relative priorities across active partnerships and deployment work streams.
  • Ensure every integration produces a corresponding, maintained deployment artifact.
  • Track and reduce each team's operational footprint (on-call load, incident recurrence, support burden).
  • Partner with project leads and senior engineers on technical direction.
  • Collaborate with Business Development, Sales, and engineering leadership on partnership priorities and technical tradeoffs.
