About The Position

Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future. Caterpillar is seeking an Engineering Manager within our Engine Testing Operations Team. In this role you will supervise two shifts of experimental mechanics through the day-to-day operations of engine testing. Further you will lead our manufacturing team by maintaining and improving processes and systems that are used in the testing of IPSD-L engines. This position plays a key role in ensuring production goals are achieved safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, while fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising a team of experimental mechanics through effective coaching and training, clear communication of job expectations, and positive reinforcement of exemplary performance; maintaining a positive working environment.
  • Lead a team of Manufacturing Engineers who support the operations of engine testing.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and operational procedures.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Experimental Mechanics and Manufacturing Engineers to maximize productivity and engagement.
  • Daily tie-in with production management to designate workload, priorities and sequence for work assigned.
  • Determines overtime need, determines priorities when resources are insufficient, and decides when disciplinary action is necessary.
  • Works to improve processes, timeliness, and reduce costs by eliminating non-value-added activities.
  • Implement various corporate initiatives such as Safety Driven, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, etc.
