Engineering Manager - EMS/SCADA & Controls
About The Position
The HUB Engineering organization is seeking an Engineering Manager – EMS/SCADA & Controls to lead the team responsible for defining how complex energy HUBs are controlled, monitored, dispatched, and integrated across generation, storage, large loads, grid interfaces, and customer systems. This role provides both technical and people leadership for a team of experienced engineers responsible for developing HUB controls philosophies, system architectures, interface requirements, and integration strategies. The Engineering Manager will translate evolving commercial and operational concepts into executable technical requirements, identify integration risks early, and ensure HUB concepts can transition into detailed engineering and execution without significant rework. This position plans, develops, coordinates, and directs engineering projects or activities. Employees have full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Supervisor/Management Experience: 3+ years

- Experience with power generation, energy storage, EMS, SCADA, DCS, plant controls, automation, or related technologies.
- Ability to translate complex operational and commercial requirements into technical solutions.
- Experience leading EMS, SCADA, controls, automation, or power-system integration teams.
- Experience integrating multiple generation technologies, BESS, and large loads into coordinated control architectures.
- Experience with plant controllers, renewable PPCs, BESS controllers, gas DCS, EMS/SCADA platforms, and utility telemetry.
- Knowledge of centralized dispatch, islanding, load shedding, black start, grid-forming controls, and redundancy strategies.
- Knowledge of ISO/RTO, utility, telemetry, dispatch, metering, and settlement requirements.
- Familiarity with OT communications networks and cybersecurity requirements.
- Experience working with OEMs, EPCs, utilities, customers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams during development and early-stage engineering.
- Strong technical leadership, communication, stakeholder-management, and decision-making skills.
Responsibilities
- Leads and develops the HUB EMS/SCADA & Controls engineering team.
- Develops preliminary HUB controls philosophies and integrated control architectures.
- Defines interfaces between EMS, SCADA, plant controllers, BESS controllers, gas DCS, renewable PPCs, customer load controls, and utility systems.
- Evaluates requirements for centralized dispatch, islanding, load shedding, black start, grid-forming functionality, redundancy, and other HUB-specific control capabilities.
- Identifies and resolves control conflicts across generation, storage, large loads, customer systems, and grid interfaces.
- Defines preliminary communications architecture, telemetry, alarms, historian requirements, cybersecurity boundaries, and control interfaces.
- Owns the HUB controls interface matrix and supports market requirements for telemetry, dispatch, metering, and settlement.
- Reviews new HUB opportunities for technical feasibility, integration risks, and potential fatal flaws.
- Translates commercial and operational concepts into clear engineering requirements.
- Coordinates with Development, Origination, Project Management, Interconnection, Enterprise Engineering SMEs, EPCs, OEMs, Supply Chain, Construction, Operations, IT/Cybersecurity, Market/Regulatory, and other stakeholders.
- Supports customer-facing technical discussions and development of HUB-specific engineering standards.
- Ensures key assumptions, risks, decisions, interfaces, and open items are effectively transitioned to execution.
- Performs tasks that require original concepts and a high level of experience and expertise.
- Provides expertise and leadership for the completion of assigned projects.
- Leads teams or other small groups with special expertise in a particular field or discipline.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
