Engineering Manager, Data Streaming

Horizon3
•$225,250 - $265,000•Remote

About The Position

Horizon3 is a fast-growing, remote cybersecurity company whose NodeZero platform delivers production-safe autonomous penetration testing and related assessment operations. The Engineering Manager, Data Streaming will lead a sub-team within Data Ingestion, which collects, normalizes, and routes the raw data that powers NodeZero’s autonomous pentests. The team’s pipelines process findings such as IP addresses, open ports, credentials, vulnerabilities, and asset relationships. The manager will grow the sub-team from its current state to 6–7 engineers and build the reliability and throughput needed to support the company’s growth. The role owns engineering execution, team health, pipeline reliability, ingestion schemas and data contracts, and the scalability of production data pipelines. The manager will work closely with Security Research, Database Platform, and Asset Inventory to align on data quality and pipeline design. This is a fully remote company, and the position may require up to 5% travel.

Requirements

  • Experience leading teams of 5–8 engineers building and operating production data ingestion or ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Deep understanding of streaming or event-driven data architectures such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Pub/Sub, or equivalent.
  • Experience designing data normalization and enrichment pipelines at scale, with attention to data quality, deduplication, and schema evolution.
  • Ability to define and own pipeline SLOs for latency, throughput, error rate, and data completeness.
  • Experience operating data pipelines in cloud-native environments and understanding their failure modes and operational patterns at scale.
  • Ability to work autonomously and translate ambiguous product requirements into well-scoped engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in Go or Python, with the ability to read and write pipeline code.
  • Experience with message queues and streaming systems such as Kafka, Kinesis, or RabbitMQ, or equivalent.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database as a pipeline destination.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized service operations in AWS or an equivalent cloud.
  • Familiarity with data observability tooling, including pipeline monitoring, alerting, and schema drift detection.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to cybersecurity data such as network scan data, vulnerability feeds, CVE/NVD schemas, or asset inventories.
  • Experience with graph data pipelines or knowledge graph construction.
  • Familiarity with Change Data Capture (CDC) patterns for downstream data consumers.
  • Background in data quality frameworks or data contract tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Data Streaming sub-team’s engineering execution and team health, including sprint cadence, technical design reviews, and engineering quality.
  • Own service-level objectives for ingestion throughput, latency, and error rates; establish on-call processes and runbooks to maintain pipeline health in production.
  • Maintain stable ingestion schemas and data contracts between the NodeZero runner, Security Research, and Database Platform, evolving them carefully as capabilities are introduced.
  • Scale ingestion pipelines to support more customers, larger environments, and new data types without requiring a proportional increase in operational engineering effort.
  • Partner with Security Research, Database Platform, and Asset Inventory on data quality and pipeline design.
  • Grow the sub-team to full capacity and develop a culture of operational ownership and pipeline reliability.

Benefits

  • Equity package in the form of stock options may be available.
  • Health insurance for the employee and family.
  • Vision insurance for the employee and family.
  • Dental insurance for the employee and family.
  • Flexible vacation policy.
  • Generous parental leave.
  • Career development opportunities.
