About The Position

Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division (CPS) designs, manufactures, and services Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, batteries, and electronic-based products to ensure power reliability in the most demanding applications. Our employees deliver mission-critical solutions to our customers’ most challenging energy management requirements. The Critical Power Solutions Data Center Systems (DCS) Engineering Manager will oversee all customized UPS and accessory designs plus select new product development projects for high-power three-phase UPS systems. The role includes all aspects of product design life cycle from concept, quotation, product design, and interface with production operations and service. The role includes direct customer engagement to align requirements and accelerate adoption of Eaton DCS platforms and services. The role manages a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team of electrical and mechanical engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum two (2) years’ engineering management/team lead/project management experience
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience working in either a design engineering, manufacturing, industrial or quality position
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now or in the future. Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 2 years of direct people management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Electrical design experience in development of high-power, three-phase UPS systems or similar products (variable frequency drives, traction drives, solar inverters).
  • Experience leading customer-facing technical design summits/workshops and converting outcomes into engineering requirements, action plans, and internal alignment.
  • Knowledge of mission-critical power systems including UPS architectures, switchgear/switchboard integration, power distribution design, and automation/monitoring systems used in data center infrastructure.
  • Experience with data center power architectures and redundancy strategies, including expectation management and tradeoff communication across Ops/Design/Service stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience with automation/monitoring platforms used in mission-critical power systems (SCADA/HMI/PLC integration), including networking and service constraints.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, with a track record of successfully managing complex engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to electrical and mechanical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team for modifying the design of high-power three-phase UPS products that meet customer requirements, incorporate new manufacturing technologies, adhere to international safety standards, and follow a fast-track release process, along with Eaton’s stage gate processes.
  • Manage technical resources developing multiple Engineer to Order (ETO) projects on a daily basis, maintain engineering accountability for these projects and drive functional excellence to ensure design requirements are met.
  • Provide timely feedback and coaching to direct reports to ensure performance and professional development. Conduct performance reviews to evaluate team members' progress towards objectives, competencies, and their development plans.
  • Participate in reviews of requirements with direct customers plus sales and support personnel.
  • Assure that product designs are competitive with respect to quality, performance, cost and reliability.
  • Translate voice-of-customer input into actionable requirements and roadmap direction for UPS and connected/automation platforms (SCADA/HMI/PLC), balancing reliability, serviceability, cybersecurity, and lifecycle cost.
  • Partner with Sales and Product Management to support consultative solutioning (architecture options, technical tradeoffs, and submittal strategy) that enables customer approvals and project awards.
  • Serve as an escalation point bridging engineering and field/service teams for controls/SCADA/HMI topics; define structured troubleshooting plans, required site data, and resolution paths with the appropriate support organizations.
  • Convey technical concepts and information to internal staff/peers and stakeholders using a mix of strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Interact and collaborate with colleagues in Product Management, Manufacturing, Service, and Quality to ensure successful delivery of the product.
  • Champion continuous process improvements and promote Electrical and Mechanical Engineering functional excellence throughout the team.
  • Foster an environment that promotes Eaton’s goals, philosophies, and encourages continuous improvement.
