Engineering Internship / Co-Op

Brelle•Los Alamitos, CA

About The Position

Brelle is a California-based, venture-backed technology company developing energy and powertrain systems for high-performance vehicles and aircraft. It builds on a novel battery-pack architecture, a full-stack software platform, and automated production methods. Brelle welcomes applications from students seeking internship or co-op opportunities in engineering and related technical disciplines. Students may apply their technical knowledge to real engineering challenges, contribute to next-generation energy and powertrain systems, and learn alongside a team working in electrified performance. Placements depend on the candidate’s background and interests and on current or anticipated business needs; not every area will have an active opening at all times. Potential areas include mechanical engineering and CAD, electrical engineering, systems engineering, prototyping, testing and validation, manufacturing and production engineering, and software and controls. Specific responsibilities, placement duration, start date, and schedule will depend on the placement, the candidate’s academic program, and business needs. Candidates are asked to indicate their field of study, technical interests, availability, and preferred placement duration when applying. These are paid positions, with compensation determined by the specific placement, relevant experience, and other applicable factors.

  • Strong technical fundamentals and genuine interest in building, testing, and improving real-world systems.
  • Hands-on, analytical approach to solving challenging problems, with willingness to question assumptions and explore better solutions.
  • Initiative, attention to detail, ownership of work, and follow-through on commitments.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines, communicate openly, consider broader team needs, and make meaningful progress independently.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities, and contribute in a fast-moving environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant technical projects, personal builds, research, laboratory experience, CAD proficiency, programming experience, or previous internships.
  • Experience with engineering design, prototyping, manufacturing processes, or design for manufacturability, depending on the placement.

Responsibilities

  • Create and update 3D models, assemblies, detailed 2D engineering drawings, and mechanical designs; support design iteration and development.
  • Support electrical design, component integration, wiring and harnesses, and related electrical systems.
  • Contribute to system architecture, requirements development, component integration, and cross-functional engineering coordination.
  • Support prototype builds, test setup and execution, data collection, troubleshooting, and design validation.
  • Contribute to design for manufacturability, assembly processes, tooling, production methods, and process improvement.
  • Support embedded systems, controls, data analysis, automation, and software development for energy and powertrain systems.
