About The Position

Gerdau is seeking a student for an Engineering Internship at their Whitby Metals Recycling location. The internship is designed for students who have completed at least two years of a university degree in an Engineering-related discipline and will last for 12 to 16 months. Gerdau offers internship programs to provide students with hands-on experience in the steel industry, allowing them to jump-start their careers. The program emphasizes personal and professional growth, continuous development, and the opportunity to work on challenging projects with global teams. Interns will gain on-the-job learning and contribute to the company's success.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and have completed at least two years of a university degree from a recognized accredited college or university in an Engineering related Discipline.
  • High GPA 3.0 and above.
  • Practical knowledge and skills that will allow room for leadership potential.
  • Excellent communication skills and team work capabilities.
  • Must be legally authorized to work full-time in the country of hire without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment.
  • Must have a valid Canadian passport and be willing to travel (if required).
  • Good communication and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to articulate ideas, detail oriented, and be comfortable dealing with associates at all levels within the organization.
  • AutoCAD and various other Engineering software knowledge is necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred education program BEng, Mechanical Engineering.
  • Previous Project Management experience is a strong asset, as the main job function is project driven.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical coordination and support in operating and capital expense management processes for the department.
  • Take part in project evaluation, technical studies, oversight, and contribution to assigned responsibilities.
  • Enter project information in EPM and MS project software.
  • Develop and refine engineering procedures.
  • Process sample and data collection and interpretation.
  • Implement new technology.
  • Train and develop technical operations.
  • Conduct Technical Studies to support CAPEX investments.
  • Implement Best Practices.
  • Support process improvement projects where applicable.
  • Participate in the development of Annual Actions Plans.
  • Participate in Technical Committee benchmark.
  • Coordinate the implementation of approved projects on specified locations throughout Canada and US.
  • Interact with internal customers and external vendors to implement the project.
  • Assist and take part in the preparation and completion of blueprints using ACAD for additions, installations, and maintenance/repair purposes.
  • Prepare drawings and sketches for modifications of machinery and equipment, and layouts on various systems.
  • Assist in checking and verifying specifications and drawings for accuracy on large projects that require design drawings needed in constructing the facility.
