About The Position

Toole Design is seeking a spring Engineering Intern in Raleigh, North Carolina, for a four-month internship intended to align with the spring semester; dates are flexible. The paid internship places the intern on project teams with planners, engineers, and landscape architects, contributing to public realm and active transportation projects. Interns participate in design phases ranging from stakeholder outreach and workshops through construction documents and administration, and attend project meetings and site visits. The role offers opportunities to develop skills in analysis, 2D and 3D modeling, and illustrative graphics, with company-wide training and career mentorship. Interns generally work 40 hours per week, four days in the office, with the option to work from home on Fridays. The salary target is $21.50 to $26.00 per hour.

Requirements

Be an undergraduate student in the second year or higher, a graduate student, or a recent graduate in civil engineering or a related field.
Ability to quickly learn new concepts, skills, and programs.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
MicroStation or AutoCAD experience, or willingness to learn.
Passion for bicycle and pedestrian design, transit, and creating safe, connected streets and public spaces.

Responsibilities

Contribute to public realm and active transportation projects as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
Participate in design phases including stakeholder outreach, workshops, preparation of construction documents, and construction administration.
Attend project meetings and site visits.
Support analysis, 2D and 3D modeling, and illustrative graphics work.
Work with clients, communities, and colleagues on streets, parks, and trail systems.
