About The Position

SCS is looking for a summer 2026 Intern for our Renewable Energy division. The division focuses on renewable energy design/build/operate projects in the renewable biogas and renewable power markets. SCS Energy’s biogas-to-energy facilities currently operating, or currently under design or construction, will remove more than 2,000,000 metric tons/year of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) in greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere. SCS’ goal is to provide a student intern with valuable technical and engineering business experience through our diverse range of projects for the clients we serve. In addition, we believe this opportunity provides a student intern the ability to explore the beginnings of their own career path. This will be a remote position and will be 30- 40 hours of work per week typically.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering and graduating by June 2027 required
  • Must be willing to live in the Long Beach area for Summer 2025 (housing allowance will not be provided)
  • Solid technical and computer skills (AutoCAD experience preferred)
  • Previous leadership experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for current or future employer sponsorship for our internship program.

Responsibilities

  • Gas process analysis of biogas conversion to renewable natural gas projects
  • Equipment selection and analysis
  • Mass balance review and editing
  • Process flow diagram review and editing
  • Excel calculations and editing
  • Process drawing edits with Bluebeam
  • Create, compile and organize project documentation
  • Review piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s) against valve, instrument, and line lists for accuracy
  • Process analysis for biogas utilization projects
  • Mechanical piping design
  • Mechanical equipment selection and analysis
  • Create, compile and organize project documentation
  • Start up and commissioning engineering support on site
  • Design drawing and 3D modeling creation, modification and checking
