About The Position

The Engineering Intern, located in West Jordan, UT, supports engineering and manufacturing teams with hands-on work and improvement projects in the plant. The intern will assist with a range of activities based on current priorities, which may include electrical control panel assembly, fabrication support, machine assembly, 3D CAD and modeling, time studies, lean improvements, and machine-build support such as inventory organization and kitting. Work will include time on the shop floor with operators and technicians. The intern is expected to take direction, work safely, and complete assigned tasks with increasing independence. Work hours are flexible around class schedules and will be during day shift, generally between 8:00am and 4:00pm Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • Manufacturing or shop experience preferred (work, internship, labs, clubs, or personal projects).
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Interest in continuous improvement tools and structured problem solving.
  • Active student status enrolled at an accredited college or university in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related engineering program.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to do hands-on work.
  • Ability to learn new tools and follow procedures.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document work clearly.
  • Good time management and ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision after training.
  • Able to work collaboratively with operators, maintenance, and engineering.
  • Aligned with high integrity and strong values.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic familiarity with CAD, electrical, or mechanical build work is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Safety First, Safety Always and meet or exceed quality expectations in all work.
  • Support hands-on machine build and improvement work, including machine assembly, fabrication support, and basic electrical control panel assembly under supervision.
  • Create and update 3D CAD models, drawings, and simple documentation as assigned.
  • Support time studies, data collection, and basic analysis to identify waste and improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in lean and continuous improvement activities, including 5S, standard work, and simple process changes.
  • Assist with machine build support tasks such as inventory tracking, kitting, labeling, and organizing parts and tooling.
  • Support troubleshooting and corrective action efforts by gathering information, documenting issues, and helping implement fixes.
  • Assist with equipment modifications and new equipment installation activities, including preparation, basic checks, and documentation updates.
  • Help train and support operators on new or updated equipment and procedures as directed.
  • Participate in team meetings and improvement activities as an active contributor.
