About The Position

Toole Design is hiring a spring Engineering Intern in Raleigh, North Carolina, for a flexible four-month internship intended to align with the spring semester. The paid intern will contribute to mobility networks, public spaces, active transportation, and public realm projects that help communities thrive. Interns work on project teams with planners, engineers, and landscape architects and take part in project phases from stakeholder outreach and workshops through construction documents and administration. The role also includes project meetings and site visits, technical skill-building, company-wide training, and career mentorship. Interns generally work 40 hours per week, four days in the office, with the option to work from home on Fridays.

Requirements

Open to undergraduate students in their second year or higher, graduate students, and recent graduates in civil engineering or a related field.
Ability to quickly learn new concepts, skills, and programs.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD, or willingness to learn.
Passion for bicycle and pedestrian design, transit, and creating safe, connected streets and public spaces.

Responsibilities

Contribute to public realm and active transportation projects as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
Participate in all phases of design, including stakeholder outreach, workshops, construction documents, and construction administration.
Attend project meetings and site visits.
Conduct analysis and develop 2D/3D models and illustrative graphics using tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Adobe Suite, ArcMap, and QGIS.
Work with clients, communities, and colleagues to help shape streets, parks, and trail systems.
