Engineering Intern - Spring 2027

Pacific Industrial Development•Adamstown, MD

About The Position

Trans-Tech is seeking an engineering student intern to support its Process Engineering and/or R&D teams in the development and manufacture of advanced technical ceramic products. The role supports work involving ferrimagnetic and dielectric-based ceramic materials, powders, and products. Interns work under the guidance of staff engineers and collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing personnel to review material requirements and processing compatibility, compile and evaluate test data, and help establish process limits and material specifications. Depending on the assignment, the intern may conceive, plan, and conduct experiments involving solid oxide powder formulation and synthesis, powder and slurry processing, forming and pressing, ceramic sintering, and post-firing evaluation of ceramic properties and electrical characteristics. The position may be based in a manufacturing area or laboratory. Interns may participate in engineering or project meetings, present data or discuss results, and provide status updates to supervisors or engineering mentors. The role may also involve travel to local university campuses for advanced analytical testing and measurement correlations. Relocation expenses and housing allowances are not provided.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a BA, BS, or MS program in Ceramics Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, or RF/Electrical Engineering.
  • Completed coursework or experience with analytical/design of experiments software such as JMP or Mini-Tab.
  • Completed coursework and/or exposure to SolidWorks or materials analysis.
  • Interest in working in a ceramic manufacturing environment and desire to understand the basics of ceramic material processing.
  • Self-starter able to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Good communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • May need to travel to local university campuses for advanced analytical testing and measurement correlations.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference is given to students completing their junior year.

  • Support Manufacturing, Process Engineering, and/or R&D by performing engineering-related tasks.
  • Collect and compile process data and conduct measurement analysis and monitoring of core ceramic material processes.
  • Support development, manufacture, fabrication, and evaluation of ferrimagnetic and dielectric-based ceramic materials, powders, and products.
  • Work with Engineering and Manufacturing personnel to review material requirements and the compatibility of processing methods.
  • Compile and evaluate test data to determine appropriate process limits and variables for material specifications.
  • Conceive, plan, and carry out experiments and related activities to define and select engineering methods, potentially developing new or improved processes.
  • Participate in engineering or project meetings and present data or discuss results as needed.
  • Provide formal status updates to assigned supervisors or engineering mentors.
  • Depending on the assignment, work in a manufacturing area or laboratory environment.
