Engineering Intern

Screen InnovationsAustin, TX
Onsite

About The Position

Screen Innovations (SI) is an Austin, TX-based manufacturer of award-winning motorized projection screens and window shading systems. Our products live in high-end homes, commercial spaces, luxury yachts, and custom installs around the world. We are obsessed with design, performance, and pushing what’s possible in our category — and we move fast. Fun is the DNA of SI. We bring energy and creativity to everything we do — from dreaming up and designing, to building and delivering products that genuinely excite people. If you want your fingerprints on products that ship at scale and get noticed, this is the place. The Role We’re looking for an entry-level Engineering Intern / Draftsperson to support our mechanical engineering team as products move from concept to mass production. You’ll learn across the full product lifecycle — from early napkin sketches through tooling, validation, and production launch — working alongside Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Industrial Designers, and our manufacturing partners. This is a hands-on role for someone early in their career who loves building things, learning fast, and seeing their work in the real world. You’ll get real exposure, real mentorship, and real impact on shipping products.

Requirements

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, or a related field
  • Working CAD proficiency — SolidWorks a must; Inventor, Creo, or others considered depending on experience
  • Coursework, projects, or internship exposure to extrusions, machined components, injection molds, sheet metal, or electronic assemblies
  • Interest in designing for medium-to-high volume consumer or commercial products
  • Willingness to work in a hands-on environment— you’re eager to learn how things are made and flow through a manufacturing facility
  • Strong attention to detail in drawings, dimensions, and tolerances
  • Proficient in Excel and MS Office
  • Clear communicator — comfortable asking questions and presenting your work honestly
  • Fast-paced, team-first mentality with a bias toward action

Nice To Haves

  • Solidworks PDM experience a plus
  • FEA analysis exposure (coursework or projects)
  • GD&T experience a plus
  • Personal projects, maker/robotics club, or shop experience
  • Interest in AV, architectural, or specialty hardware products

Responsibilities

  • Produce 2D drawings and 3D CAD models in SolidWorks (or equivalent) under the direction of senior engineers
  • Help build and test prototypes; document results and assist with design validation
  • Support Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Software Engineers as they balance performance, manufacturability, and aesthetics
  • Learn how tooling decisions get made — injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, extrusions, and machining
  • Assist with communication to contract manufacturers and custom part vendors
  • Help execute test plans for electromechanical systems and capture the data
  • Maintain BOMs and drawing packages alongside the Engineering and Purchasing teams
  • Participate in design reviews — present your work clearly and take feedback constructively
  • Help support Beta programs and incorporate real-world feedback into drawings and designs
