Summer Internship Program – Manufacturing Engineering Location: Medina, New York Program Overview Baxter offers a robust summer internship program based in Medina, New York, providing meaningful work assignments and projects that immerse students in Baxter’s culture and manufacturing operations. The program is designed to deliver practical, hands-on experience that closely reflects the responsibilities of a full-time Manufacturing Engineer, with real opportunities to make a measurable operational impact. Interns are paired with a mentor, receive ongoing guidance and support from their manager, and gain exposure to the broader Baxter employee community, ensuring a successful and engaging internship experience. This summer internship is within the Manufacturing Engineering organization, supporting Baxter’s Infusion Therapies and Platforms business at the Medina site. The Manufacturing Engineering team plays a key role in driving operational excellence, improving manufacturing efficiency, supporting production processes, and identifying and eliminating waste to ensure reliable, high-quality product delivery to patients. Project Focus & Scope Project scopes may vary and will focus on: Manufacturing process analysis and improvement Operational excellence initiatives (Lean, waste identification, and elimination) Manufacturing engineering support for existing products and processes Data-driven analysis of productivity, efficiency, and process performance Continuous improvement activities aligned with safety, quality, delivery, and cost Interns will be assigned specific tasks supporting manufacturing engineering activities and process improvements. Responsibilities typically involve data collection and analysis, process observation, participation in improvement events, and collaboration with cross-functional teams such as Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain.

Requirements

  • Baxter is seeking students with strong academic performance and leadership potential
  • Ideal candidates demonstrate analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a strong interest in manufacturing, engineering, and operational excellence
  • Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in: Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Or a related engineering or technical discipline
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and organizational skills
  • Positive attitude; team-oriented, adaptable, and collaborative
  • Active involvement in campus or community organizations; leadership experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing engineering initiatives focused on operational excellence and process improvement
  • Identify, analyze, and help eliminate waste in manufacturing processes (Lean principles)
  • Assist with data analysis related to manufacturing performance metrics and trends
  • Participate in process observations and root cause problem-solving efforts
  • Support documentation updates related to manufacturing processes and engineering standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement sustainable improvements
  • Communicate project progress, findings, and recommendations to Manufacturing Engineering leadership
  • Work under the direction and guidance of Baxter Manufacturing Engineering professionals
