About The Position

Maglev is seeking motivated, collaborative interns specializing in mechanical and aerospace engineering to help develop and implement project deliverables under the direction of a lead engineer. Projects vary in size and primarily involve mechanical and aerospace engineering as part of the development of an electric VTOL platform and propulsion systems.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Proven experience with at least one industry-standard CAD software package.
  • Extensive, demonstrable experience operating and troubleshooting 3D-printing technologies, including materials, slicing, and print optimization.
  • Prior involvement in rapid design-and-build projects requiring quick iteration and hands-on problem solving.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental mechanical principles, including statics, dynamics, and material science, and practical skills using basic shop tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) concepts.
  • Experience in university or competitive engineering teams such as SAE Aero, SAE Auto, Formula SAE, Design Build Fly, AIAA competitions, or similar.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior exposure to or experience using finite element analysis (FEA) tools such as ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation to analyze stress, strain, and vibrational characteristics of components.

Responsibilities

  • Use CAD software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Onshape to create and modify detailed 3D models and engineering drawings for mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Operate and maintain 3D printers and other rapid-prototyping tools to fabricate components for design validation and testing.
  • Design and conduct physical tests to validate prototype performance, strength, and fit, and revise designs based on empirical data.
  • Assist with hands-on assembly, alignment, and mechanical integration of systems and subsystems.
  • Maintain organized CAD files, revisions, and detailed documentation for prototypes and final designs.
