Engineering Intern- Fall 2026
About The Position
The Town of Wasaga Beach is accepting resumes for the position of Engineering Intern for a four (4) month co-op work term from September to December 2026. This role involves assisting the Engineering Division with various tasks, including program and initiative evaluation, permit issuance, construction inspections, and policy development. The intern will interact with various stakeholders on engineering-related matters, conduct topographic surveys, assist with designs for infrastructure improvements, support safety reviews, collect and report traffic data, monitor industry advancements, and perform field visits to review project progress.
Requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Applications is required
- Ability to multi-task and excellent attention to detail
- Strong customer service skills
- Minimum of “G2” driver’s license is required
- Able to provide an appropriate criminal records check and drivers’ abstract upon hire
Nice To Haves
- Preference will be given to those registered in a full-time post-secondary Civil Engineering (Co-op) Degree/Diploma Program in the next academic year
- Previous work in a public sector environment or transportation is an asset
- Experience in analysis, specialized engineering software, data collection and interpretation is an asset
- Valid Class “G” Ontario drivers’ license preferred
Responsibilities
- Assisting the Engineering Division to evaluate programs and initiatives
- Assist with issuing permits and construction inspections
- Assist with policy development
- Interacting with other department staff, consultants, outside agencies and the public regarding engineering related issues
- Conducting topographic surveys of existing Public Works facilities
- Assist with developing designs for roadway, drainage and environmental improvements
- Supporting engineering staff with safety reviews of transportation facilities
- Collecting traffic data and preparing summary reports
- Monitoring advancement in technology/industry best practices
- Performing field visits to review project progress
