About The Position

OVERVIEW The Engineering Intern will support plant and project engineering initiatives at ASR Group’s Baltimore operations. This role provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing processes, equipment reliability, continuous improvement, and capital projects. The intern will collaborate with cross-functional partners (Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, and Supply Chain) to analyze data, improve performance, and help execute engineering deliverables.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related discipline).
  • Completed at least one year of undergraduate study by internship start date (preferred; adjust as needed).
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing/industrial environment and follow all safety requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data (Excel required; exposure to statistical tools a plus).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to present findings clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with a cross-functional team.
  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must be able to work a minimum of Ten (10) consecutive weeks during the time when the internship is offered.
  • As part of the hiring process, you must successfully complete a background investigation, reference check, and pre-placement physical and drug screen.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship (modify if your policy differs).

Responsibilities

  • Support process, project, or plant engineering workstreams including data collection, analysis, documentation, and field verification.
  • Assist with continuous improvement efforts (e.g., waste reduction, yield improvement, throughput optimization, downtime reduction) using problem-solving tools (A3, 5-Why, Pareto, fishbone).
  • Help develop and update engineering documentation such as SOPs, P&IDs markups (redlines), equipment lists, change logs, and work instructions.
  • Participate in capital project activities: scope development, vendor coordination, drawing reviews, schedule tracking, and commissioning/start-up support.
  • Conduct time studies, process observations, and material/energy balance calculations as needed.
  • Assist with equipment reliability initiatives (basic failure analysis, PM optimization support, spare parts identification) in partnership with Maintenance.
  • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings, recommendations, and project status for engineering and plant leadership.
  • Support safe work practices and compliance with all site EHS requirements (including participation in pre-job safety reviews when applicable).
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support plant performance and engineering priorities.
