About The Position

Are you an engineering student looking to gain experience in medical device design and development? Gilero, A Sanner Company, is seeking two Engineering Interns to join our team in the Chicago, IL (West Loop) office working at least 15 hours per week during the fall semester and potentially continuing through the school year. In this role, you will gain exposure to product development, rapid prototyping, test method development, data analysis, design documentation, and laboratory operations within a fast-paced medical device environment. Candidates should have a "can-do" positive attitude and be working towards an Engineering degree. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing coursework in an engineering discipline, preferably biomedical, mechanical, industrial, chemical, or a related engineering field.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and basic quantitative data analysis.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, organized, and traceable engineering records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proficient in MS Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior laboratory, prototyping, machining, manufacturing, or product-development experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical device development practices, design controls, risk management, or quality-system documentation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineering project teams in the development, refinement, and evaluation of new and existing medical devices and delivery systems.
  • Build, assemble, modify, and rework prototypes and finished components for engineering testing, design reviews, and client meetings.
  • Support the development, execution, and documentation of engineering test methods, including custom methods and methods based on ASTM, ISO, and predicate-device approaches.
  • Conduct product testing and inspection, which may include force testing, flow-rate testing, package integrity testing, functional testing, and dimensional inspection.
  • Perform failure mode investigations and contribute to root-cause analysis, troubleshooting, and corrective-action activities.
  • Collect, analyze, and document test data; prepare clear test records, summaries, and engineering reports.
  • Perform metrology and dimensional analysis of components, assemblies, and critical product features.
  • Create and revise 2D drawings and 3D CAD models of devices, components, prototype tooling, and test fixtures using SolidWorks.
  • Support preparation of engineering documentation, including project plans, product specifications, test protocols, test reports, design inputs, and project closeout documentation.
  • Source, purchase, receive, and organize materials, components, and supplies for laboratory activities and prototype construction.
  • Package and ship prototypes, components, materials, and other project-related items as needed.
  • Operate rapid-prototyping and laboratory equipment, including SLA and FDM additive-manufacturing systems, machining centers, and manual machine tools.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, equipment readiness, inventory organization, and compliance with established safety and operating procedures.
