About The Position

Fincantieri Marine Group (FMG) is hiring an Engineering Intern at their Sturgeon Bay, WI location. At Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, the internship program offers hands-on experience in a dynamic shipyard environment, providing exposure to a wide range of projects and technical disciplines. Interns will contribute to real-world projects while learning directly from experienced engineers, designers, and shipyard professionals. The internship provides valuable insight into Naval Architecture, Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems, and Structural Systems. Interns will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support new construction and repair projects, participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and problem-solving activities, and gain first-hand knowledge of shipyard operations, including production processes, safety standards, and quality control practices. They will also develop professional skills such as technical communication, project coordination, and teamwork in a fast-paced industrial environment. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to explore multiple engineering and technical fields, build practical experience, and better understand working in one of the nation's leading shipyards. Domestic travel may be required.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be a U.S. Person.
• Must be able to work at heights.
• Must be able to work in confined and enclosed spaces.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions. (cold, hot, rain, snow, etc.)
• Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
• Must have strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
• Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
• Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMG and have high values for safety awareness

Nice To Haves

• Naval Architecture -- Understanding hull design, stability, hydrostatics, and the fundamentals of ship performance.
• Electrical Systems -- Exposure to shipboard power distribution, control systems, automation, and integration of complex electrical equipment.
• Mechanical Systems -- Involvement with propulsion, HVAC, piping, and auxiliary machinery essential to vessel operation.
• Structural Systems -- Learning about ship construction methods, structural analysis, materials, and fabrication techniques.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with technical deliverables, including development of drawings, calculations, reports, and responses to customer comments
• Assist engineers with all testing activities, including preparation and dockside testing, as well as sea trials as needed
• Support engineering design and drafting activities, including 2D drawing development, 3D modeling, and defining material requirements for assigned projects
• Other duties as assigned
