About The Position

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for an Engineering Intern - Energy Production located at Gerald Gentleman Station in Sutherland, Nebraska. This internship is for an engineering student to work with and assist experienced engineering staff in the Engineering Department at Gerald Gentleman Station. Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, or other relevant engineering disciplines are acceptable. The duration of the internship will be May 2026 to August 2026, based on school calendar dates. Gerald Gentleman Station is the largest generating facility in the state, consisting of two generating units with a nominal capacity of 1,340 megawatts. The Engineering Department at Gerald Gentleman Station is responsible for daily support for operations and maintenance, trending system performance, initiating actions to restore/improve system performance and reliability, troubleshooting off-normal system conditions, failure and root cause analysis, evaluating proposed configuration changes, making recommendations to maintain asset value, and capital project management and coordination of maintenance-related projects.

Requirements

Must be pursuing an engineering degree from an accredited college/university.
Must be finishing their sophomore year of college at a minimum.

Responsibilities

Assist Plant Engineers with equipment troubleshooting
Obtain field data
Utilize drawings and prepare drawing revisions
Update plant records
Trend equipment performance data
Research equipment/component replacement and upgrade options
Assist Plant Engineers with project field implementation and contractor oversight
Accountable for other duties as assigned.
