About The Position

The Baruch STEP Academy is an academic enrichment program focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and providing college preparation. Managed through the CUNY Research Foundation, we serve 250 middle and high school students throughout the city each year. The Summer 2026 Program will operate over 16 sessions, July 6th through July 3oth (Monday through Thursday only). Course Title: Engineering Principles Course Description: This course will introduce fundamental engineering concepts through interactive lectures and dynamic projects. Students will work in groups to solve engineering problems and be challenged in designing and building "products" for an urban setting using the applications of geometry, physics, and engineering.

Requirements

  • Availability each program day from 9 am – 2:00 pm + weekly one hour faculty meetings
  • Degree in education, engineering, math, or related STEM field
  • Previous teaching role with target demographics (middle or high school)
  • Possess good interpersonal skills with teenagers
  • Experience guiding students through interactive group projects

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach curriculum for approximately 15-18 students
  • Evaluate student and group performance
  • Provide staff with measurable results in student learning through assessments
  • Monitor and maintain student attendance records
  • Reassess curriculum based on students' needs, interests, and understanding of materials
  • Plan for end of semester research project
