About The Position

The Role Connectivity plays a pivotal role in advancing technology that delivers exceptional customer experiences, enables new revenue-generating opportunities, and supports safety‑critical, hands‑free driving solutions aligned with General Motors’ strong safety culture. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cellular Wireless Technology Engineering Manager with a strong background in 4G and 5G Cellular technology. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of management experience in Wireless Standards, Hardware Design, Testing, RF, System Architecture, and Product Development to help define best‑in‑class connectivity systems for GM vehicles. In this role, the Engineering Group Manager - Cellular Technology will manage a team responsible for the technology roadmap, system and functional requirements, product and technology evaluations, issue resolution, and testing of hardware components and systems that enable connectivity technologies across all GM vehicles and architectures. You will work closely with cross‑functional partners—including vehicle integration, product management, and systems engineering—to create secure and reliable connectivity solutions and support future technology roadmaps from development through production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of management experience in hardware development.
  • 10+ years of expertise in 3GPP cellular technology, including module design, testing, and/or certification.
  • Expertise in development of IoT, Smartphones or NTN modules.
  • Experience with testing and debugging tools such as call boxes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, Wireshark, and modem tools.
  • Familiarity with antenna systems.
  • Strong knowledge of RF theory.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to navigate complex hardware and system issues.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to travel ~5%

Nice To Haves

  • 15+ years of experience in hardware design and testing.
  • Master’s degree in an engineering-related field.
  • Knowledge of SIM technology.
  • Knowledge of automotive or access‑control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of subject matter experts in cellular technology.
  • Develop and specify cellular module and network functional requirements for Terrestrial Networks (TN) and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN).
  • Develop and specify wireless network functional requirements.
  • Lead the development of the cellular technology roadmap.
  • Conduct component evaluations and proofs of concept.
  • Lead cross‑functional meetings to drive issue resolution and support design discussions that meet program milestones.
  • Collaborate with Product, Systems Engineering, Program, Quality, and Supplier teams to design and deliver on‑time solutions.
  • Participate in and lead design and technical reviews related to your technology domain.
  • Participate in and lead technical and regulatory discussions with validation and supplier‑resiliency teams to meet GM standards.
