About The Position

The Engineering Director, Product Development will be part of Stanley Black & Decker’s Global Tools & Storage team in a hybrid role. This leader oversees product development engineering managers and drives execution across a portfolio of programs to achieve quality, performance, schedule, and cost objectives. The role establishes organizational priorities, KPIs, budgets, and operating rhythms, and partners across functions to align resources, requirements, timelines, and deliverables.

The director develops a culture of functional excellence, continuous learning, accountability, and people development, ensuring team members receive mentorship, training, and growth opportunities. The role approves Design Confirmation, Supplier Confirmation, and Manufacturing Confirmation Builds; identifies and mitigates program risks; and supports initiatives in new product development, value improvement, warranty, compliance, and sustainability. International travel may be needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 15+ years of relevant experience in product development or engineering leadership.
• Proven experience leading teams through the full new product development lifecycle from concept through launch.
• Ability to influence cross-functional teams and align stakeholders on priorities, resources, and timelines.
• Experience with continuous improvement, engineering process discipline, and lessons learned.
• Knowledge of international intellectual property, compliance, and safety requirements for consumer product development.
• Technical depth in design for manufacturability, reliability, quality, serviceability, Six Sigma, DOE, root-cause analysis, GD&T, FMEAs, FRACAS, and related engineering tools.
• Willingness to travel internationally as needed.

• Partner cross-functionally to allocate resources and align requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
• Build operating rhythms that drive accountability across supporting functions.
• Foster functional excellence, continuous learning, and people development.
• Ensure team members receive mentorship, training, and growth opportunities.
• Approve the start of Design Confirmation, Supplier Confirmation, and Manufacturing Confirmation Builds.
• Identify risks early and implement mitigation plans to keep programs on track.
• Support initiatives across new product development, value improvement, warranty, compliance, and sustainability.
