About The Position

Thumbtack is seeking an Engineering Director for its Business Applications team. This role will lead the Business Applications organization in building and operating internal systems that support Thumbtack's operations at scale. The team focuses on Salesforce-centered workflows, admin tooling, and integrations, with an expansion into a broader internal platform for business workflows, including shared APIs, reusable integration patterns, and auditable workflows. The organization collaborates with engineering and business teams to create systems that are easier to operate, extend, and automate responsibly. This leadership position will guide the team's transition from its current Salesforce-centric work to a more comprehensive internal platform, balancing urgent business needs with long-term platform investments and fostering trust with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Significant engineering leadership experience, including managing managers or senior technical leaders.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous business needs into clear technical strategy, durable roadmaps, and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong technical judgment for internal platforms that need to connect business workflows safely across multiple systems of record.
  • Experience leading internal platform or business applications teams that connect business workflows across systems of record.
  • Track record of building high-performing teams through org design, role clarity, and leadership development.
  • Ability to earn trust with business partners while navigating priorities, tradeoffs, and adoption of new technical capabilities.
  • Practical experience bringing automation or AI-assisted workflows into production business processes, with the judgment to know where reliability, governance, and human review matter most.

Responsibilities

  • Work with business partners to understand high-value operational problems and translate them into clear technical direction for the team.
  • Lead the Business Applications team beyond Salesforce-centered delivery into a broader internal platform for business workflows, including AI-enabled workflows.
  • Build the path from local prototypes and agent experiments to production capabilities that business teams can adopt safely.
  • Own the operating model for application administrators, business application developers, and software engineers as the organization expands its technical scope.
  • Set priorities to ensure critical business work progresses while allowing for durable platform investments.
