About The Position

The Engineering Design Technician will, with guidance, provide technical leadership to project teams working on the planning, evaluation, design, and implementation of civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will, under leadership, lead the study and/or design phases of projects related to the civil, environmental, construction, and industrial fields. The Engineering Design Technician will rarely interact with clients, the public (agencies, government entities, etc.), or participate in business development activities. This position is expected to project a professional presence, represent the Company and department positively, and possess beginner-level knowledge of at least one engineering software package. A Professional Engineering (PE) license is not required; however, a degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is preferred.

Requirements

Pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
Develop a baseline understanding of state and local regulations.
Willingness to complete rotations in two different groups during the first two years of employment.
Basic understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) and related design, data collection, and analysis software.
Basic understanding of materials, methods, and tools used in the construction and repair of site and transportation infrastructure improvements.
Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

A Professional Engineering (PE) license is not required; however, a degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Consult with project managers to provide guidance for the construction of various designs and modifications.
Use design software and drawing tools to accurately render and communicate designs.
Plan and design improvements related to assigned projects.
Follow established design specifications to determine engineering requirements such as water flow rates, traffic demand, and earthwork balance.
Plan projects through the analysis of drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports, maps, and other geological and topographical data.
Prepare reports related to projects, including detention reports and engineering due diligence reports.
Perform calculations for materials, equipment, and labor to determine probable construction costs.
Collaborate with architects, contractors, and engineers to ensure projects progress appropriately.
Communicate project status with internal project managers and survey teams.
Monitor project progress and ensure design specifications and standards are met.
Demonstrate a strong desire to learn, ask questions, and expand knowledge in the field of Civil Engineering.
Be willing to do what is required to support the successful completion of projects.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
