About The Position

The Engineering Compliance Officer leads product and engineering compliance across Silent‑Aire North America, ensuring designs, processes, and changes meet applicable regulatory, safety, professional practice, and certification requirements across the North American markets. This role serves as the primary engineering interface to internal stakeholders and external certification and regulatory bodies, translating complex requirements into clear, executable engineering expectations. With a strong emphasis on design for compliance, disciplined change control, documentation rigor, and risk management, the Engineering Compliance Officer safeguards product integrity and enables efficient certification, release, and lifecycle management.

Requirements

  • College or university degree, preferably in a related technical or engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, regulatory compliance, quality, or product certification within a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of UL certification, engineering regulatory requirements, client specification processes, and related compliance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with proven project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to independently manage end-to-end compliance activities, showing initiative, accountability, and strategic judgment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications in product safety, quality, or regulatory compliance (e.g., UL, CSA, ISO), enhancing technical credibility.
  • Experience with HVAC systems, data center infrastructure, industrial equipment, or power systems.
  • Prior experience supporting audits or working directly with third-party certification bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and sustain a world-class Silent-Aire product and engineering compliance program that reinforces our reputation for safety, quality, and regulatory excellence.
  • Develop and implement best practices for regulatory monitoring, triage, impact analysis, and compliance execution, including the selection and deployment of appropriate tools and technologies.
  • Maintain current expertise in applicable regulatory and safety standards (e.g., UL, CSA, IEC, NEC, ISO, NFPA, ASME, ASHRAE, and applicable regional codes).
  • Interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into clear, actionable engineering design, documentation, and process expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering teams to drive comprehensive compliance and certification initiatives across multiple product lines, aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess impacts to existing and in-development products, ensuring timely communication and rapid integration of updated requirements into engineering and product development processes.
  • Oversee engineering compliance across the full product lifecycle, from concept development through launch, post‑launch evaluation, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the recognized subject matter expert and primary engineering liaison with third-party certification and regulatory bodies (e.g., Intertek (UL/CSA), APEGA, clients).
  • Coordinate engineering support for certification submittals, technical reports, surveillance inspections, and associated corrective actions.
  • Lead or support responses to regulatory, certification body, or client nonconformances, observations, and audit findings, ensuring timely root cause analysis and corrective action closure.
  • Where applicable based on product scope and contractual commitments, engage with government authorities (e.g., Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), permitting offices), clients, and Silent-Aire stakeholders (e.g., leadership, accounts, engineering) to assess permitting requirements and provide guidance specific to the product(s).
  • Ensure engineering change, certification, approval, and release processes comply with professional engineering and technologist regulatory requirements in Canada and the United States.
  • Act as a steward of professional engineering practice governance, including appropriate application and control of professional seals, stamps, and approvals where required.
  • Coordinate with licensed Professional Engineers (P.Eng., P.E.) and certified technologists to ensure engineering work meets applicable jurisdictional requirements prior to release.
  • Maintain awareness of and ensure compliance with APEGA, ASSET, and applicable U.S. state engineering licensure and practice requirements.
  • Support and govern processes that distinguish work requiring professional licensure from delegated technical, drafting, or non-regulated activities.
  • Conduct and support internal audits, reviews, and documentation requests related to professional engineering and technologist compliance.
  • Support external audits, inquiries, and documentation requests related to professional engineering and professional practice compliance.
  • Support or lead compliance-related DFMEA and risk assessments to ensure regulatory hazards are identified, evaluated, and effectively mitigated.
  • Review product designs for compliance risks related to safety, materials, labeling, ratings, and intended use.
  • Promote and embed “design for compliance” best practices early in the product development lifecycle.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Program Management to ensure product designs align with applicable regulatory and certification requirements.
  • Support supplier compliance by verifying that sourced components and assemblies meet defined regulatory, safety, and certification standards.
  • Provide guidance, interpretation, and training to engineering teams on compliance expectations, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the various Engineering departments to integrate the compliance requirements into the daily workflows and engineering deliverables.
  • Maintain compliance matrices, certification tracking logs, and regulatory impact assessments throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Prepare compliance summaries, risk assessments, and executive briefings for leadership reviews and program milestones.
  • Support and reinforce internal procedures related to compliance, design control, and engineering change management.
