About The Position

ATCO Gas operates systems that transport natural gas across Alberta, delivering it everywhere from small towns to large industrial sites. Engineering work is completed to build and maintain this natural gas system. This co-op program offers a broad range of unique engineering work experience opportunities in multiple departments, each with its own unique work scopes. Students will partake in tasks depending on the group's roles and responsibilities, which may include technical design, project management, process improvements, data analysis, technical analysis/report writing, and field support.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate engineering co-op (or internship) program at a recognized Canadian university.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing clearly and concisely, using appropriate technical vocabulary.
  • Hold a valid Class 5 driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Review and prepare design drawings for ATCO assets such as pipelines and regulator stations.
  • Prepare installation procedures and technical design calculations.
  • Apply technical codes and standards in design decisions.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders to coordinate project decisions and updates.
  • Acquire necessary permits and approvals for project deliverables.
  • Manage project estimates, forecasts, and construction schedules.
  • Lead and support initiatives aimed at improving business processes and policy improvements in areas such as project management and engineering execution.
  • Support improvements to internal calculators and tools used by engineering groups.
  • Utilize software such as Microsoft Automate and PowerApps to support application development projects.
  • Collect and analyze data from engineering projects to effectively manage pipeline system risks.
  • Inform business decisions through data management, modeling, analysis, and reporting using software (Excel, Power BI, etc.).
  • Perform hydraulic modelling, business case preparation, and long-term development plan preparation.
  • Perform material failure analysis and provide findings to inform future project decisions.
  • Provide administrative support to construction and field operations.
  • Review and administer crossing agreements with external stakeholders to ensure safe work around existing gas lines.
  • Create and coordinate field staff schedules to meet project execution timelines.
