Requirements

  • 5-7 semesters (or equivalent) of progress toward BA/BS in a Science/Engineering-based technical degree, such as Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Packaging Science, etc.
  • Experience in a ‘working’ physical/chemical lab environment achieved through school/university, and/or work experience/job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • BA/BS degree preferred.
  • Packaging, chemical, physical, and /materials science test experience acquired through work/co-op/internship within the packaging, materials, or fresh produce industries is a strong asset to this position.
  • Familiarization with any of the various analytical methods noted, or other test instrumentation, and advanced materials analysis experience, and knowledge is also a definite benefit.
  • Additional skills and coursework, knowledge and/or experience in beverage/food packaging, structural design, and paperboard science is also beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical, physical, structural, and performance testing of various substrates (paper, board, film, laminations, etc.), carton structures, and prototype/finished products in accordance with industry-standard procedures from sources such as ASTM, TAPPI, ISTA, and any other internal (GPI-based) or external (customer) specifications and requirements.
  • Develop new test methods and procedures when required, in support of the analysis of produce packaging materials, incorporating and utilizing the expertise acquired from education, work experience, and knowledge obtained working in the GRD Group.
  • Writes and issues detailed data/science-based reports, emails, and presentations stating results, conclusions, and future course of action from the lab work completed and data obtained.
  • Communicates the project’s critical information obtained with customers, and various levels of management, in a concise, and scientific manner that is data-driven, and scientifically sound.
  • Appropriately uses all Lab/test equipment within the GRD-Louisville facility.
