About The Position

The Engineering Associate provides technical support and assistance in the planning, design, and implementation of various infrastructure projects and programs. This role involves performing engineering calculations, drafting technical drawings, conducting field surveys, and assisting with project management tasks to support the department's objectives.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in engineering technology, Geography/GIS, drafting, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in technical engineering, GIS mapping, or related work, preferably in a municipal government setting.
  • Experience with civil engineering design software programs and applications.
  • A Valid Driver's License Class C.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, and familiarity with engineering software applications.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, construction techniques, and design standards applicable to civil infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of boundary and topographic surveying
  • Skills in strong analytical thinking and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret technical data, drawings, and specifications accurately.
  • Skills in effective communication, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Process utility service, driveway, and culvert applications.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the public and other City Departments.
  • Review and process subdivision plats.
  • Prepare project plans, specifications, and cost estimates for infrastructure projects, including roadways, utilities, stormwater management, and public works facilities.
  • Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to prepare technical drawings, schematics, and construction plans for engineering projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with design standards and regulations.
  • Conduct field surveys and data collection activities, including topographic surveys, site inspections, and asset inventories, to gather information and verify existing conditions for project planning and design.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to departmental staff.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and filing systems for engineering projects, including project files, drawings, specifications, and correspondence.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures when working in the field or on construction sites, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • This position is an essential service position and will require providing services during emergency situations.
