About The Position

SpringHill Suites Tampa North/I-75 Tampa Palms is seeking a dependable and service-oriented Engineering Assistant to help maintain the hotel’s guest rooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems. This is a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in keeping a property safe, functional, clean, and guest-ready. The Engineering Assistant will perform routine preventive maintenance, respond to repair requests, identify potential safety concerns, and support the hotel’s overall maintenance operation.

Requirements

  • Previous hotel, apartment, commercial building, facilities, or general maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry, and general repairs is helpful.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to identify problems and complete assignments with limited supervision.
  • Dependable, organized, and responsive to operational needs.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, coworkers, vendors, and hotel leadership.
  • Availability to work the established schedule of Thursday through Monday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. , including weekends.
  • Availability to assist with occasional emergencies may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance throughout the hotel.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest room maintenance requests.
  • Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, drywall, and general building repairs.
  • Inspect guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, equipment, and exterior areas for maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks and document all work performed.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and repairing hotel equipment and building systems.
  • Replace light bulbs, fixtures, filters, batteries, hardware, and other basic components as needed.
  • Maintain the hotel’s pool area and equipment in accordance with applicable requirements and hotel procedures.
  • Support room-readiness efforts by completing repairs accurately and efficiently.
  • Communicate unresolved issues, equipment failures, hazards, and supply needs to hotel leadership.
  • Maintain engineering tools, equipment, work areas, and storage spaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper chemical handling, lockout/tagout requirements, and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Assist with emergency situations and urgent maintenance needs when required.
  • Provide courteous service and maintain a professional appearance when interacting with guests and team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support hotel operations.
