About The Position

Join our team as an Engineering Assistant I in Pima County's Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department's Technical Services and Engineering Division. In this role, you will be tasked with technical challenges related to sewer system operations and coordination with technical staff evaluating, recommending, and testing various new technologies and process optimization practices. It will also include planning, design, evaluation of capital improvement program, and maintenance support for Treatment and Conveyance facilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering or closely related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
  • Relevant engineering experience may be substituted for the education requirement.

  • Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.
  • The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures.
  • Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.
  • Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.
  • The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history.
  • A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
  • Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies, due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities, records, and communication systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum three (3) months experience reviewing or creating civil, piping, mechanical, or architectural plans.
  • Minimum two (2) months experience in field services related to vertical or horizontal construction.
  • Minimum three (3) months experience using any combination of the following or closely related software: AutoCAD, Excel, ArcInfo, ArcGIS.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in designs, studies, and cost estimates and prepares reports for future and proposed projects;
  • Calculates hydraulic capacity of gravity and pressure sewer pipes,
  • Analyses of engineering systems to optimize operations;
  • Determines need for basic data, such as field surveys, location of utilities and soil tests, and requests information through appropriate channels;
  • Coordinates design and other features of work with other departments and public agencies;
  • Reviews completed work for conformance with original job instructions and accepted engineering practices;
  • Reviews or checks designs, drawings and profiles for adequacy, soundness of engineering features and practicality;
  • Checks and reviews final plans and specifications including contract projects for submission to supervisor;
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of as-built plans or statistical analysis of systems;
  • Performs research, investigative and design work;
  • Manages the construction of public works projects;
  • Provides professional engineering direction and guidance in the construction, maintenance or operation of public works facilities and structures;
  • Performs design review of plans and technical reports for public Agency improvements for conformance to County standards, including current Engineering Design Standards, and Standard Specifications and Details for Construction;
  • Prepares and reviews engineering solicitations, invitations to bid, and evaluates submittmits;
  • Reviews plans, specifications, and analyses prepared under contract.
