About The Position

This role supports the Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA) Program by overseeing its consistency, ensuring database maintenance, and providing expertise for effective database utilization and reporting. It also manages the Facilities Audit program, communicates program priorities, and reviews database integrity annually. Additionally, the position supports the Controlled Maintenance (CM) Planning Program by utilizing FCA outcomes to meet state requirements, coordinating staff and resources, preparing annual submittals, and providing recommendations for execution. It coordinates long-term project objectives using master plans and FCA data, and participates in CM projects through design, construction, and warranty phases. The role also supports the Deferred Maintenance (DM) Planning Program by aligning funding with project needs, maintaining a database of departmental needs, and providing communication for DM submittals. It offers recommendations for project prioritization, communicates project scope to Capitol Projects Teams, and coordinates long-term objectives. In Project and Construction Support, the role ensures proposed projects are adequately reviewed to avoid impacting existing building systems, serves as Operations Project Representative (OPR) for assigned projects, and actively participates in project reviews. It assists in developing guidelines and construction standards for consulting architects and engineers, considering building infrastructure systems such as BAS, HVAC/R, lighting, emergency power, and electrical distribution. The position promotes sustainable and maintainable buildings through cooperative handling of construction activities. It provides engineering analysis for the Central Utility Plant (CUP) control system, understanding Siemens Industry, Inc. BAS software/hardware, and coordinates BAS support for the CUP. The role also supports the multi-campus BAS program by providing engineering analysis, understanding Siemens BAS for campus facilities, addressing program concerns, preparing reports, and maintaining relationships with contractors, vendors, and Facilities Projects. It participates in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (AssetWorks) for the BAS Program, including PM and CM processes. Finally, it supports Building Maintenance & Operations (BMO) by coordinating with zone operations, skilled trade shops, and the outage program, participating in PM and work order processes, and providing emergency response support for UC Denver facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical, Engineering, facilities management, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • 3-5 years of professional industry experience in the Building Automation System (BAS) field.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel spreadsheets.
  • Excellent oral communication skills with the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Familiarity with chillers, mechanical systems, boilers, steam systems and electrical systems.
  • Ability to administer, effectively plan, organize and direct a wide variety of energy tracking program responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of facilities management.
  • Knowledge of building systems, utilities, maintenance operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced/post-graduate degree (Master’s or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis if the degree is in a field of study relevant and/or directly related to the industry and work assignment.
  • Experience in facilities engineering related to Building Automation System and digital controls design, installation, and operation.
  • Experience working with the methods and practices related to HVAC/R (heating, ventilating and air-conditioning/refrigeration) design, construction, and operation of building systems.
  • Experience working with a Building Automation System networked in a distributed manner in a multi-building campus setting, preferably an academic health and research campus.
  • Certification as a Certified Energy Manager, or the ability to attain this certification within the first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee FCA program consistency and database maintenance.
  • Participate in data collection and provide expertise for database utilization.
  • Provide necessary reporting demonstrating database usefulness.
  • Oversee Facilities Audit program utilizing other department staff and resources.
  • Communicate with department staff to highlight program priorities.
  • Review the integrity of databases and reports annually.
  • Oversee the Controlled Maintenance (CM) program objectives using FCA outcomes.
  • Coordinate department staff and resources to meet CM program objectives.
  • Prepare the annual Controlled Maintenance submittal to meet State objectives and deadlines.
  • Provide communication and recommendations to staff executing CM submittal elements.
  • Coordinate long term project objectives using building-optimization master plans and FCA database.
  • Participate in CM projects in the design, construction, and warranty phases.
  • Align Deferred Maintenance (DM) funding with project needs not eligible for CM funding.
  • Maintain a database of departmental DM needs and proposed funding amounts.
  • Provide communication and recommendations to staff executing DM submittal elements.
  • Provide recommendations for project prioritization to management using FCA program outcomes.
  • Communicate project scope and details to Capitol Projects Teams.
  • Support the project development process to ensure proposed projects are adequately reviewed.

  • Maintain effective working relationship with Facilities Projects to coordinate construction and renovation projects impacting BAS.
  • Participate in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (AssetWorks) for the BAS Program.
  • Support campus BMO zone operations and skilled trade shops.
  • Coordinate with the outage program for the various campuses as needed.
  • Participate in the PM (preventative maintenance) process, the work order process, time and materials reporting, and regular review of associated reports.
  • Meet staff objectives for utilizing the AssetWorks CMMS program.
  • Provide emergency response support for UC Denver multi-campus facilities, BMO interests, and CUP operation.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by Facilities Management.
  • Maintain a constructive and civil working relationship with campus administrative managers and university academic & research staff.
