About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Engineering Aide performs simple routine engineering work in the field or in the office. The eligible list from this recruitment may be used to fill vacancies for Engineering Aides in various departments. The current vacancy we are recruiting for is with the Department of Community Development, and will perform work associated with land surveying. Duties may include, but are not limited to, making simple mathematical calculations, indexing and filing plans, maps and survey notes, answering routing requests for information, searching for survey monuments in support of monument verification, plotting information from legal descriptions, plans and other documents to maps, doing simple drafting and lettering, using AutoCAD to produce survey plats and maps, and performing administrative tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of High school level mathematics to include algebra and plane geometry.
  • Ability to do computing, lettering and tracing neatly and accurately.
  • Ability to follow directions and established procedures in performance of routing engineering duties.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to exercise skill in the care and use of hand tools.
  • Ability to clean and care for surveying instruments.
  • Ability to read and write English at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • No formal education requirements.
  • No formal experience requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Some positions may require possession of a valid California Class C Driver License prior to appointment.
  • Incumbents in some positions will be required to perform manual labor which may include lifting and carrying bundles of survey stakes and sledge hammers to drive survey stakes and hubs and must possess sufficient eye-hand coordination to enable use of hand tools when searching for survey monuments and removing brush.
