About The Position

The Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions in mechanical or electrical systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing) and other equipment throughout the hotel. This role also involves performing preventative maintenance, servicing the hotel's pool, maintaining the building exterior, and responding to guest requests. The Engineer will communicate with department heads regarding maintenance needs and actively participate in the hotel's safety and energy improvement plans. This is a temporary position.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of experience as an Engineer, Hotel experience preferred
  • General knowledge of building maintenance and systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair routine mechanical and electrical malfunctions in hotel systems and equipment.
  • Ability to recognize potential safety hazards and security problems in the hotel and act upon each accordingly.
  • Proficient in Basic computer usage and skills like MS Office programs.
  • Ability to prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to work varied shifts, including overnights, weekends and holidays.
  • Capacity to maintain regular attendance in compliance with variable scheduling needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.

  • Skilled in several areas such as HVAC, electrical, carpentry, dry wall, painting, plumbing, roofing, and landscaping.

  • Must be proactive in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving issues as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in mechanical or electrical systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing) and other equipment throughout the hotel.
  • Perform preventative maintenance assignments on a scheduled basis.
  • Service the hotel's pool, including adjusting chemicals and cleaning filters; completing maintenance request forms and record logs.
  • Maintain the building exterior and "curb appeal" (e.g., snow removal, lawn care, painting, and gardening).
  • Respond in a courteous manner to all guest questions, complaints, and or requests to ensure strong guest satisfaction.
  • Communicate with hotel department heads to become aware of maintenance needs and ensure timely response to internal requests.
  • Actively participate in The William Vale’s Safety Plan and energy improvements.
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Perform other duties as requested by ownership and management.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the Forbes Travel Guide and their standards.
  • Provide elevated, personalized, and best-possible service to guests at all times.
  • Anticipate and respond to guest needs quickly, and proactively when possible.
  • Expect and react promptly to guest requirements, requests, and inquires.
  • Actively listen and ask questions as needed to fully understand guest complaints/issues.
  • Navigate difficult conversations with best practices, such as: remaining calm and professional, staying empathetic, and displaying confidence that you can help – if/when you can’t help, pull in support from management.
  • Debrief team following difficult conversations.
  • Communicate clearly, utilizing professional language and a friendly/warm tone.
