About The Position

The Construction Engineer (CE) position within Distribution Capital Projects Construction organization is responsible for the safe and efficient planning, coordination, execution, final commissioning, and closeout of construction activities for all assigned capital projects while achieving cost and schedule certainty. Typical capital projects may involve the construction of new or upgrades to existing distribution lines, upgrades to distribution automation equipment, etc. with internal and external business drivers in both routine and non-routine / emergency environments. This position is an integral part of a diverse project team consisting of Project Managers, Design Engineers, Right-of-Way (ROW) agents, Environmental, Operations Coordinators and other subject matter aspects as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from four-year accredited institution.
• Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.
• Engineer I: 0 to 2 years of experience in an engineering discipline.
• Engineer II: at least 2 years of experience in an engineering discipline.
• Engineer III: at least 4 years of experience in an engineering discipline.
• Engineer Sr: at least 6 years of experience in an engineering discipline.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Authorization to work in the United States is a precondition to employment in this position.
• Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards.
• Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Developing specific class estimates, scopes of work, construction management plans, outage plans, and contract strategy through the stage gate process.
• Participating in design and constructability reviews.
• Overseeing contractors through execution of work.
• Ensuring all configuration and compliance management procedures are adhered to.
• Supporting the definition of project-specific work scope.
• Developing detailed construction plans including sequencing, target schedule dates, and outage requirements.
• Defining construction resource plans (contractor and/or internal).
• Identifying construction hazards/risks and associated mitigation plans (safety and/or environmental).
• Estimating detailed construction costs.
• Supporting construction resource contracting efforts by providing input to annual contracting strategy.
• Assembling and leading construction bid events, including development of bid packages/RFPs, hosting pre-bid meetings, and communicating performance and safety expectations to potential contractors.
• Coordinating with Supply Chain partners to review proposals, perform evaluations, and award contracts.
• Participating in engineering constructability reviews.
• Providing and supporting field oversight to ensure safety expectations are met or exceeded.
• Promoting a safe and healthy workplace both in the office environment and field.
• Leading pre-construction kick-off meetings with construction resources.
• Performing quality assurance checks throughout construction to ensure all materials and construction practices are in accordance with Entergy’s Design and Construction specs/standards.
• Serving as a liaison between construction oversight and engineering/design to resolve any material procurement or design package issues.
• Documenting lessons learned for continuous improvement.
• Providing detailed schedule forecasts, cost projections, and/or project updates to all relevant stakeholders.
• Managing and tracking construction costs, including submission of accruals and reviewing/approving invoices.
• Ensuring schedule and financial performance targets are met or exceeded.
• Performing project close-out activities, including contract completion and as-builts.
• Tracking contractor cost and schedule performance.
• Working with contractors to develop recovery plans as needed.
• Managing contractors in alignment with contract terms.
• Reviewing, validating, challenging, and processing change orders.
• Ensuring the integration of safety, reliability, operability, constructability, and configuration management practices into final products/designs/processes.
• Overseeing distribution pre-construction or construction activities.
• Resolving technical engineering conflicts that affect cost, schedule, quality, or customer satisfaction.
• Working with other disciplines within the Distribution organization and other company business units to achieve stated goals.
• Assisting with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary.
