About The Position

Eversource is seeking an Engineer to join their Transmission System Planning Team. This role provides transmission expertise in power system studies and project development, focusing on modeling and developing the transmission system. The position requires significant experience in the modeling, analysis, and planning of transmission lines and substation facilities within an electric power system. Key responsibilities include conducting reliability studies such as power flow, transient stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transients. The role also involves representing the company in regional and national transmission committees like NEPOOL, NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE.

Requirements

  • Knowledge with power system transmission analysis tools such as PSSE, TARA, ASPEN, PSCAD, or other similar analysis software.
  • Knowledge of programming language such as Python.
  • Knowledge of new technologies including but not limited to photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and battery.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory as applied to planning an electric power supply system.
  • Knowledge of National, State and other planning standards and reliability criteria.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, including formal presentation.
  • Excellent team skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, ability to develop strategic partnerships.
  • Ability to achieve desired results by setting high standards for self and others, and accepts responsibility for outcomes.
  • Skill in working cross functionally.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical preferred.
  • Three plus years of directly related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain system models for transmission studies, including collecting, reviewing, and modifying electric system parameters like equipment ratings, impedances, contingency sets, protection and control parameters, and system topology.
  • Conduct adequacy assessments and develop options to meet delivery objectives, with latitude for independent action and decision-making.
  • Perform reliability studies including power flow, transient stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transients.
  • Identify key technical issues and develop solutions.
  • Understand, interpret, and apply industry and corporate transmission planning standards, as well as Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Represent the department and company on various industry-related committees.
  • Participate with other utilities and ISO planning staff in regional transmission expansion studies.
  • Collaborate with engineers in System Planning, Transmission Asset Strategy, and other Electric Operations personnel on analyses and technical support.
  • Plan, develop, and collaborate on the implementation and management of the transmission asset life cycle plan.
  • Communicate analysis results and action plans clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Contribute to the Electric Operations budget through cost-effective programs and projects.
  • Train junior staff in technical analyses and procedures.
